Job Description

Responsible for creating and writing various types of user documentation, such as internal business procedures, how-to guides, references, manuals, and instructions. The technical writer will assist project managers as needed in capturing and recording technical requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a user handbook to clearly explain to staff how to perform the tasks according to policies and procedures.
  • Document the required steps and forms to onboard agency staff.
  • Document how to submit the required forms to properly secure agency resources.
  • Document how to submit a request for a LincPass exemption.
  • Document the agency required processes and procedures to adequately protect data.
  • Work with staff to develop contract statement of work.
  • Work with staff to create specifications for developing new products and acceptance criteria to define successful delivery.
  • Work with staff to document security specifications required to secure to meet agency and department requirements.
  • Attend meetings and join project teams in order to interview staff and capture requirements as needed.
  • Develop templates and style guides that can be used as reference material for future work.
  • Develop a user manual for the most common IT Liaison duties.
  • Develop documentation on the tasks and roles that were orphaned when agency transferred IT staff away from the agency.
  • Develop statements of work as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and grammar skills; ability to work independently, delivering accurate documentation under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of software programs for writing text, creating charts and graphs, and incorporating diagrams and photos into documents.
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major work in Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience writing technical documentation and training material.
